The Game- UGA vs. ASU

It was a dark and stormy night....
that's how most of Mommy's elementary school creative writing projects started out.
Not exactly the way we wanted our tailgating and football experience to go.
Thanks to Kristi's friendly nature, she had several friends to choose from who were planning to move their tailgate parties inside.
Dawn and Paul Walker were kind enough to welcome us to their house to tailgate- even though they were not going to the game.
For those not from the south, this is pretty common- tailgating all day even if you are not actually attending the game.
Football is an all weekend event in the south.
After gathering ponchos and rain gear, beverages and food we drove over to the Walkers.
Daddy and Uncle Keith (Aunt Kristi's boyfriend) quickly dug in to the spread.

While Dawn, Aunt Kristi, and Mommy visited.

Kristi's other friends Dusty and Chris were there, too watching the Arkansas game on TV.

From left to right- Mommy, Paul and Dawn, Dusty, Uncle Keith and Aunt Kristi, Chris, and Daddy- thank you self timer mode.
Where are the girls? you ask...at Aunt Kristi's.
No, not by themselves.
Aunt Kristi is the Advisor for her former sorority Phi Mu at UGA.
The sorority sisters gather their schedules each semester and put together a babysitting list complete with references.
We used the list to find a super great Senior theater major and former summer nanny to babysit the girls while we went to the game.
She was a lifesaver!
After a short time hanging out we drove over to Aunt Kristi's secret parking spot, donned our rain gear and attempted to dart between the alligator drops falling from the sky en route to Sanford Stadium.
By the time we found our seats at the 15 yard line, 4 rows from the field near the South end zone, Mommy's jeans were soaked up to her knees her bangs were matted to her head. Which begs the question- Why didn't the girls just pony tail up and head out? I'll tell you why- because a real Georgia Girl doesn't completely abandon cuteness on game day for a little monsoon.
Aunt Kristi had to spend some time in a sky box for the 4th quarter with her boss and a potential donor for her job so she couldn't wear jeans like Mommy.
Long about half way through the first quarter the clouds parted and the ponchos came off.

Aunt Kristi and Uncle Keith are so cute.

Daddy decided to leave his poncho on just in case- which was smart because a little drizzle did return later in the game.

We had a great view of the game and even got a couple cool shots.

Mommy got distracted from the game quite a few times by the super cute little girl in front of us. My first thought was- why isn't this child in BED?! (After all, kickoff was at 7pm) But she was having such a great time cheering on the Bulldogs from her Daddy's shoulders.

As the game progressed, Daddy learned why the man at the package store earlier questioned whether or not we realized we were purchasing 100 proof Jack Daniel's and not the regular stuff. Daddy thought the 100 proof wouldn't be that different.
It didn't taste much different...which he and Aunt Kristi learned was a problem.
By the end of the night, the Bulldogs pulled off a victory- the rain subsided- and Daddy was more than a little inebriated and Aunt Kristi wasn't far behind.
She ended walking in circles around the stadium for most of the fourth quarter with little direction from the many stadium workers as to where exactly the sky box she needed was.
Luckily a nursing Mommy decided it was best to stay away from Daddy's friend Jack and Uncle Keith was our driver so he was fine, too.
Aunt Kristi's directional inabilities seemed to rub off on Daddy as he got slightly turned around on his way to the car and since he is not familiar with campus, and it was dark-he was not much help in directing us to his location.
When we finally picked him up and got back to Aunt Kristi's we all decided NO one should EVER drink 100 proof Jack.
We did get a few laughs at the playful big brother-little sister wrestling that ensued when large amounts of alcohol were present.
Needless to say, the whole day- top to bottom did not go completely as planned.
Not to say we didn't make the best of it and have a great time.
PS The girls did GREAT with the sitter. Kennedy only woke up crying once and was fine after a little snuggling.
