First trip to Athens

Mommy hardly slept Friday September 25.
She was SO excited about taking the girls for their first trip to Athens- Mommy's favorite town.
Saturday morning Bruce had inside out or upside down-some kind of yummy pancake planned for breakfast. He always makes the tastiest treats.
Since we all forgot about the dessert popovers he made the night before- we gobbled those up instead.
We gathered all our treasures, said our thank yous and goodbyes, backed up the driveway, and started down the road to Athens.
There is nothing quite like Athens on a game day.
I imagine heaven is a lot like game day in Athens...but not this game day.
This game day was drizzly off and on- not exactly conducive to walking around Downtown and campus.
We dropped our bags off at Aunt Kristi's house, gave Daddy the grand tour, and headed Downtown while the weather was cooperating.
First stop- The Varsity for lunch.

After hearing the stories and seeing a Food Network special, Daddy was anxious to hear
"What'll ya have, what'll ya have".
Kennedy had her very first Naked Dog

Madison did, too!

Kennedy ate her hot dog, but really just wanted Daddy's coke

After lunch we found a great parking spot next to Wild Wing Cafe Downtown and wandered around. Our first stop- The Red Zone for a little shopping.
Daddy got a red 'G' hat.
Then Madison found her first painted bulldog- Bugga.

We think Kennedy thought the dawgs were real- she just kept petting them and smiling.
Dawgustus is a Downtown icon now.

He sits directly across the street from the famous University of Georgia Arch....

which was our last stop.
The skies started to look ominous.
The girls were tired and needed naps.
Mommy and Daddy needed to get ready for the game-including pickup up tailgate food and beverages.
Our weekend was planned on a tight schedule in order to have time to see everyone.
Scheduling with little wiggle room doesn't always work out for the best.
This weekend was no exception.
The crummy weather thru a wrench in our plans to cruise around Athens and campus and eat at some of Mommy's favorite places.
None the less, the time we did have together was wonderful.
Madison knows all about Georgia football already and loves Uga the mascot so she was thrilled with all the red and black.
