Anna Maria Beach Weekend- Saturday Day 2

Saturday, September 12 Kennedy was up bright and early.
She must have sensed we were at the beach!
I did my best to keep her from waking up the rest of the house as long as possible.
Gramm was the first 'victim' of the early riser.
Followed closely by Uncle Matt.
Madison joined the party, too.
Then Pop finally made his grand appearance.
The sky was dark but there were no drops falling.
After a quick, healthy (tee hee) danish and Publix sprinkle sugar cookie breakfast we suited the girls for the beach.
Uncle Matt joined us, too.

Kennedy wanted to help Mommy dig a hole for her to sit in.

Madison decided she wanted to sit in Kennedy's hole and bury herself.

Kennedy didn't like that idea.
She wasn't too keen on sharing her hole

and it really wasn't big enough for both of them

While Mommy worked to make the hole bigger, Kennedy climbed out and slid back in over and over. See her little toe slides in the sand?

All that sliding filled her bathing suit with half the beach!

After filing her suit, she decided to fill the hole again

and her mouth with sand!

Meanwhile, Madison and Uncle Matt were jumping and splashing in the waves.

When Kennedy heard all Madison's shrieks she decided to go abandon her hole and go see what all the excitement was about

but not without her trusty cup

After rinsing as much sand as we could off her body and out of her suit, Kennedy and Mommy went back to the house for Kennedy's late morning nap.
Pop went down to the beach to join Uncle Matt and Madison for a little while.
He managed to snap a few photos of a funny interaction...
Madison decided she wanted to be buried in the sand and Uncle Matt was happy to oblige.
He started digging a new hole.
'Hey, Uncle Matt- whatcha doin?'

'Oh-digging a hole for me? I'll jump in and watch while you keep digging'

'Guess it will go faster if I help- OK, I'll dig from the bottom'
How excited does she look about this?!

Ta-da- a buried Doodle.
Pop said she loved it...

at first.

Then it came time to pull her out of the sand to rinse off.

Let's just say- she did NOT like that part.

Once Uncle Matt got her out she was much happier.

Particularly when she got to use Uncle Matt as a human floatie.

I thought this was funny- crawling back to the shore in unison.

They were two peas in a pod!
Since the lunch time rain was starting to fall, Pop and Uncle Matt brought Madison back to the house to get cleaned up.
She thought it was pretty cool getting naked in the outside shower.
As Mommy started making lunch, Kennedy woke up from her long nap.

Uncle Matt was happy to snuggle her while Mommy made sandwiches.

Miss Madison snuggled up with Gramm on the sofa, then laid down to take her nap with Pop.

Kennedy enjoyed some quality time with Uncle Matt and a football.

He is so great with the girls.

She's trying to copy the face he made when he had the football.

Kennedy enjoyed bogarting all the toys while Madison slept!

She loved having Mommy all to herself, too!

Since the rain was really coming down, we decided to stay inside and enjoy some college football.
At one point Mommy and Gramm braved the rain for the 50 or so steps it took to get to the cute shops at the end of the street.
One of the storefront has changed hands many times over the years, but is almost always filled with fun clothes or hand painted treasures.
Now it's called Three Island Monkeys- and boy is it FABULOUS!
When the girls woke up we left Uncle Matt and Pop in charge so we could do a little more browsing at the pier shops.
We both managed to pick up a few special treasures.
Going to the pier for dinner is a must when you are visiting Anna Maria.
Saturday nights they have live music- Jimmy Buffet style- Mommy's favorite!
Since that was our original plan, we decided to brave the pouring rain with huge umbrellas Gramm and Pop packed.
We took turns carrying the girls and umbrellas down the long pier to dinner, only to find there is no live music on the rainy nights.
Bummer.
Gramm and Pop enjoyed a yummy seafood dinner, Uncle Matt had some yummy clam chowder, and Mommy and the girls scarfed down land lover treats.
We made it back to the house in time to leave a sleeping Kennedy with Uncle Matt so Mommy, Madison, and Gramm could walk down to the ice cream shop.

Madison decided on Superman ice cream for her special treat.

She loved the crazy colors!

We took back some Dips treats for Pop, too!

After ice cream, Madison turned in for the night while the grown ups stayed up to watch some more college football.
The day may have been filled with rain, but we had a great time, anyway.
