Sunday, after naps construction continued on the 'shelf'.
Madison was up before Kennedy, so we took the monitor out to the garage to begin construction for the afternoon.
This time, Madison wanted to help.
She kept carrying Daddy's mallet around like a barbell, lifting it above her head then flexing her biceps and saying, 'Look at my big, giant muscles!'.
When she realized she could swing the mallet (surprisingly accurately!) she asked Daddy if she could help.
She did an awesome job hammering in the lag bolt caps in place.
A short while later Kennedy woke up and joined the garage party.
She did her best to weave her trike and car in and around the remaining cross beams in the garage, and driveway, but quickly lost interest when she discovered a more interactive 'toy'.
I can't say enough how much these girls love their roly poly bugs.
Madison found one, too.
Which was great, because when they try to share one, the poor guy takes quite a beating...or smooshing to be more accurate.
(See Madison's G leftover from Saturday's game?)
These little guys crawled all over our little gals.
Kennedy tried to transfer hers to a stick
Then thought she lost it and asked Daddy for help. She didn't realize he just crawled to the other side of her hand. Can you spot it?
When the little guy broke free, Kennedy threw her hands up as if to say, 'oh well' and went on playing until she found him again.
at which point both girls and their respective bugs relocated to their 'tent' aka play structure roof/cover.
Daddy snapped this cute one of the girls both looking under their hands for the roly polys.
Kennedy was so proud of her new friend.
Though she managed to lose a shoe while focused so intently on her buggie friend.
Classic Kennedy question face...
When Mommy and Daddy agreed the bug had enough playtime, the girls let them crawl away and moved on to Popsicles
in their tent
though Kennedy didn't last long
she was happier eating her sticky treat while standing up
Madison just made herself more comfortable...
though she looks much less comfortable
After Popsicles, Kennedy wanted to help.
Her idea of helping was grabbing Daddy's tools out of his tool bag and 'wrenching' on her car.
Before the afternoon was over we learned two more parts of the play structure are unusable (we already ordered 8 missing bolts which have yet to arrive...so much for expediting missing parts!) The super important brackets which hold the swing cross beam to the main climbing structure are drilled improperly so they do not line up. Since we are not building a Crooked House, this is a problem. Yet another set back to this monster project. Maybe by Christmas the girls will have their birthday present....did I mention they already figured out how to lean the ladder against the side and climb up to the platform? Yep- last week they figured that one out. Guess it's not going to waste while in assembly process!
