Busy, busy girls today.
Miss Kennedy decided nap time was for the birds.
After just under an hour in their beds, this is what I found
Kennedy 'flapping her wings' and bouncing up and down
then making an attempt to escape
first time she's tried this trick.
then peek-a-boo
after dumping every animal, blanket, and pillow she begged for before nap, out of the crib.
then there is the pretend sleeper, Madison.
who started out pretending, then hid
then bounced up and down
saying she was a stink bug
they were so wiggly
then Kennedy joined in the stink bug game
after an hour and a half of attempting to nap, I decided a change of scenery was needed
Out to the swing set- Not sure where Madison's skirt ended up.
Kennedy cracked me up
before we went out to swing they each put on Mommy's 'wip sik' aka, lipstick, which is actually a tube of lip gloss.
She squished her lips together non stop while moving her legs in a running motion on the swings
she held onto her swing for dear life with a funny grin
Rare form- that's what these girls were in today.
What a funny day!

Daily Llama Drama
Every day it is the same argument.
An argument that never used to be.
Our mailbox is 5 blocks east and 2 blocks south of us.
Lucky for us it is in the direction of 'town'.
About a month ago- Kennedy changed her mind.
Let me explain-
We used to stop and get the mail every day on the way home from school or errands. We turn off the main road, onto the dirt road where our box is located, pick up the mail, then continue on the dirt roads home to go see a few 'friends'.
First is the llama, then a bit further down the road, past all the horses is the donkey.
Both girls used to ask every day if we could go see the llama. Madison asked if we could get out and feed him, talk to him, pet him. The answer is always- 'no kiddo, we need to get home for lunch and naps. We will ask our neighbors when it gets cooler and we can walk to them'. With excitement we waved to the llama every day.
Then one day, we turned off the mail road to get the mail and Kennedy let out an ear piercing scream followed by "I DON'T WANT GO SEE DA LLAMA AND DONKEY!" We promptly turned the car around, back to the main road and proceeded home. No fuss.
The next day it was the same. This time followed by "NO KENNEDY-I WWAAANNNTTT TO SEE THE LLAMA-YOU STOP HURTING MY EARS!!".
And so it began.
The Daily Llama Drama.
Each day I listened to one or the other yell and scream because they do/don't get to see the llama and donkey. We try to take turns, but sometimes the screams are just too much to handle and the littlest monster wins, followed by a pouting Madison. In the last couple days Kennedy changed up the routine- she screams and says 'no wanna see llama!', then when we turn the car around she screams and says, 'no mommmmmyyyyy- need to see the llama!'.
Ugh- what will they do when we move back to civilization and our daily local zoo is gone?

Monday Night Football-Round 2
We survived Round 2 of Monday Night Football in the desert!
This being the first 'event' since the swing set was fully installed (sans the shading top, which is put together but not installed because the high winds out here will likely kill it so we are going to see if the barn is shade/wind shield enough without it), everyone was anxious to get outside and try it out. Kids of all ages...11 months to 24 years old enjoyed the new 'playground' as Madison calls it.
Our friends Lake and Autumn called dibs on the glider and Madison happily shared with the brother/sister pairing. She had Miss Claudia to push her high to the sky and the smiles on both their faces are proof this was great fun!
Kennedy was inside with Daddy and the other grown ups, but decided she needed to play with her friends. She doesn't like walking from the back of the house out to the barn. Since the play structure was moved outside, each time we go out to play she stands at the back porch throwing a fit until Mommy picks her up and carries her out. Tonight, Mommy was already at the barn, so Kennedy cried and ran by herself all the way out. We couldn't help but laugh hysterically when Johnny B (the 'big kid' on the swing) pointed out, it's tough to take the tears seriously with all that squeaking.
Kennedy grabbed the one pair (of her 6) of squeakers that is too small. None the less, she musically squeaked between tears on her run out to play.
Even Miss Maya, a few short weeks from her first birthday took a turn on the slide with her Daddy's help.
Mr Thad, the adventuresome Daddy, even helped the shoeless Maya climb the 'rock wall' ladder.
Autumn was definitely the best slider of the group. Though she had a safety catcher (her mom, Starr) on her first ride down, she quickly figured out firmly planting her feet was the key to keeping her bottom clean and free of bruises at the bottom.
The I-can-do-whatever-my-older-friends-and-sister-can-do Kennedy tried to go down without a spotter after watching Autumn, but doesn't quite have the hang of planting her feet, so she sailed off the end of the slide and into the dirt. Luckily Starr was happy to spot from them on as Kennedy insisted 'Mommy not do it- dat wady (aka lady) Sarr do it'!
As the game continued and the clock ticked away, a few of our younger friends went home to bed. The salad, garlic bites, pizza, Matt's special wings, and Lora's amazing homemade chess square dessert were all polished off or put away, both girls were in their skeleton pjs once again, and Madison began conning the adults-one at a time- into reading books to her.
When the game was over and all big and little friends were walking out, we noticed Mr Billy hung around to read The Witch Who Was Afraid Of Witches to Madison for her second time of the night.
He is an incredibly animated children's book reader, using extra voices for each character. Daddy knew Billy was extremely talented in all his roles at work, but after hearing him read to Madison, they may have to invoke morning circle time in the hangar!
Somehow I don't think engineering and flight manuals would be quite as exciting- even in different voices.

Skeleton Dancin
Yes, it is still September. Call me crazy.
Maybe it's the Halloween decor accumulating dust on the store shelves it's been there so long.
Maybe it's my insane need to get plenty of 'wear' out of clothes.
Tonight-the new Halloween pjs I picked up on my trip to Georgia over the summer came out.
These glow in the dark skeleton Barbie pink pjs may just have magical powers.
After running back and forth to their dark closet multiple times to check the glow factor, we all ended up in the living room where Kennedy found her groove...
and a hanger.
She was jamming with her hanger belt
so Madison joined in for some attention
but Kennedy was just stealing the show
jumping, swinging her hips, shaking her head, singing a made up song
there were a few spills, but she was completely unphased
we couldn't stop smiling
she was so in her groove, and the skeleton pjs just added to her movements
Madison couldn't stand the lack of attention so she slowly leaned her body onto the love seat
as though she was operating in slow motion she slithered down the side of the sofa
and rolled onto the floor. such the drama queen
we just ignored her silent fit so she curled into my lap while Daddy hooked the dancing skeleton
Mommy reminded Kennedy it was time to settle down for bed and Kennedy responded
by pretending to sleep. Can you see her eyes pinched tightly shut? She wasn't fooling anyone and she knew it
What a great laugh! If only still photos had sound!
It was a great first night for both little skeletons- but tonight, Kennedy was definitely the goofiest.

Boots, Slides, and Building Swings
Day two of the new play set outside and the girls couldn't wait to wake up and get out there.
We spent the morning inside cleaning and playing, ate some lunch, got the girls down for much needed naps, then on with the boots and out with the girls.
Straight to the ladder to climb
Unfortunately, a full nap Madison did not get. Hence the pouting
Eventually she did go down the slide and the cycle continued.
Up the ladder, down the slide.
We keep the rain boots by the back door now since the girls find it impossible to play outside without them.
They do love sliding together best.
Daddy sends us a text message as he is leaving work. Today's message came shortly after we tromped outside to play. So, back in we tromped with a promise dinner would be served outside on the new picnic table tonight. See, Daddy was home by 5:15 pm tonight. Unheard of!
So by 5:45pm we were finished with dinner, cleaned up and back outside.
See, the replacement brackets for the swing support finally arrived today!
And so- with the sun setting behind the barn and the large harvest moon on the rise the final assembly began
and came to an end with happy girls!
The glider was first on the 'try me' list.
(Did I mention ALL the girls wore their rain boots today?)
Kennedy quickly moved to a swing and insisted Mommy sit next to her.
Can you see the excitement on their faces?
They love their swings!
Well, Kennedy does. It was impossible to peel Madison off her glider.
Thank you Gramm, Pop, Uncle Matt, Grandma and Grandpa- the girls LOVE their birthday swing set!
