Happy Birthday, America!

Kennedy played with Madison's American flag before we left for Aunt Kelly's house for our annual swim time, cookout, and fireworks.

When we got to the pool everyone jumped in to play.
Our friends Denise and her daughter and step-son Ryan (almost 4 yrs old) and Brandon (7ish, I think) were there, too.

Kennedy made the funniest faces at Brandon.

we couldn't stop laughing

where does she get this stuff?

After a little time in the pool, Madison dried off and got dressed again

only with a few more pieces than when we arrived at the house.
Aunt Kelly has some pretty great dress up clothes for the kids.

Madison couldn't stop dancing in her chaps and sparkly headband.

Matt learned a little something, too.
He says girls have something ingrained in their brains from birth.
Going to bathroom in groups.
He looked down the hall at one point and realized Madison followed her friend Ryan into the bathroom.
Apparently the girls couldn't go by themselves.
Madison was just standing there talking to Ryan while she did what she needed to do.

The girls had their own special table to sit and enjoy their hot dogs, watermelon, and homemade baked beans (MMMmmm....thanks, Denise!)

Daddy was holding Kennedy wrapped up in her sister's bathing suit cover up to stay warm as the sun continued to go down. She was pretty tired so we set up the pack-n-play and let her go to sleep after she ate some dinner. She screamed a while, not quite ready to give up her play time. Boy did she need that sleep, though.

After dinner, Ryan's dad gave the girls some smoke bombs to watch (no, we didn't let them do the lighting- Ryan's Mommy, Denise did that while the girls stood back at a safe distance and watched)

They were both fascinated.

Each one was a different color and brought bigger smiles and fun faces from the girls.

We ended the night with the perfect view of the fireworks from Kelly and Chad's back yard.
Madison LOVES watching the fireworks with Daddy each year.
Kennedy was so worn out, she slept right through them.
