Disney Birthday Extravaganza: The Beginning

August is a Birthday Month in our house.
Madison was born on Matthew's birthday, August 16th.
Kennedy arrived 3 days (ok, 2 years and 3 days) later, August 19th.
This year we celebrated Disney style.
The next few posts share the details of our Disneyland birthday adventure trip.

The weekend celebration started Friday morning with Mickey shaped pancakes.

Daddy was at work, so only the girls enjoyed pjs and pancakes

Mmmm....

The next day Daddy went back to work for a few hours in the morning.
The girls played while Mommy packed.
When Daddy got home he supervised a little coloring time on the good old easel

Then it was time to load up the car and begin our jaunt down to Disneyland.
We kept the girls awake and left around the time of their afternoon nap in the hopes they'd sleep in the car.
Poor Kennedy was absolutely exhausted and crashed out immediately.
Madison took a little more convincing.
"If you close your eyes and go to sleep, when you wake up we will be at Mickey's house."
Eventually she bought it and crashed
after getting a little more comfortable, (note the foot propped up on the door)

Unfortunately, we hit a bit of traffic on the way down.
Mommy braked a little too hard (so says Daddy) and the girls woke up.
Kennedy tried to go back to sleep but Madison was crying and there was no sleeping thru that.
So we broke out the Disney Princess coloring and activity set to get back to happy again.

Kennedy is new to the crayon gig but knew she wanted one if her sister had one.
Hers went straight into her mouth.

As Mommy drove along...er, um...parked on the freeway

the girls became increasingly more upset that we were NOT at Mickey's house (and Kennedy because she was no longer allowed to eat crayons even though her sister had some...to color with, not eat) so Daddy dug through his bag and located his ear plugs

which made him a happier passenger.
Before long (just over 2 HOURS to drive 60 miles) we made it to the Sheraton Anaheim and checked in.
While Daddy unloaded the car the girls wanted to jump and play on the bed.
Kennedy is still a little unaware of her boundaries on a bed so Mommy decided to improvise

Pillows on the floor and cartoons on the tv, what could be better?

How about running from one end of the hotel room to the other?

Or banging on your reflection in the mirrored closet doors?

Who is that cute baby in the mirror? I like her.

Once the car was unloaded and the girls had plenty of running, laughing, and playing time in, we jumped back in the car for dinner.
We decided to use a Chili's gift certificate Mommy and Daddy got for their anniversary just last month.
Loud and Mellow kid friendly restaurants are perfect for little girls who haven't had a full nap and could melt down on a moments notice.
Other than Kennedy wanting to eat everything Daddy touched- including his Tabasco doused fajitas, dinner was great.
Mommy let our server know we were celebrating three special birthdays on our trip and she surprised us with singing (which Madison LOVED and Matthew loathed) and two BIG chocolate milkshakes.
Although we were all stuffed, we managed to scarf down both thick, yummy shakes without any problem.
Daddy and Kennedy were finished with theirs before Madison and Mommy, mostly because Kennedy couldn't get enough chocolaty goodness.
When we got back to our hotel Madison got to open her first birthday weekend gift.

Princess pjs from Gramm!
She could hardly wait to get in and out of the bath and get them on!
After bath time, the sugar from the shakes must have set in.
The girls were bouncing off the walls.

Luckily it was only 7:30pm and there were no guests in the rooms around us.

Madison was so proud to show off her new pjs between jumps on the pillows

You can almost hear them yelling in this photo as they ran back from the door.

This was their pattern for almost an hour.

Run to the door giggling, toddle back and jump on the pillows.

Kennedy wore herself out with all back and forth.
She nursed for a couple minutes and fell almost asleep when the fireworks we were trying to keep the girls up for started.
The Disneyland firework show starts at 9:25 each night and if you recall from our stay with Aunt Darlene- the hotel is so close to the park we get ash showers from the fireworks.
Needless to say, Kennedy perked up to see what the noise was all about.
We sat the girls on the table under the window so they could watch together.

Kennedy was completely mesmerized by the flashing lights.
This was the first time she saw fireworks.
Fourth of July she was sleeping.
Last Disney trip she was utterly exhausted and slept on Mommy's lap as we watched the show.
This time she couldn't take her eyes off them.
Madison has always loved fireworks so she was happy to sit and enjoy with her baby sister.
When the show was over, Kennedy nursed back to sleep in no time.
It didn't take Madison long to fall asleep either.
In fact, she fell asleep with her hand on her head

and her kitty in her lap.
Mommy and Daddy were quick to follow the girls into la-la land in anticipation of our big day ahead.
Daddy slept great (with his ear plugs, of course) but Mommy woke up at midnight to the sound of screaming children running up and down the halls and banging on the walls.
Kennedy heard them too, and spent the rest of the night sleeping next to Mommy in bed.
