Kennedy- The Explorer, 10 months

Kennedy is quite the explorer as you've seen in past posts.

As we've said many times before, it's hard to believe time is flying by so quickly.
Kennedy is already 10 months old!
She's been crawling for several months now and pulling herself up on furniture.
This month she got brave enough to let go.
She stands on her own for several seconds before plopping to her bottom or reaching back for the sofa, wall, etc...

She still wants EVERYTHING in her mouth
as you can see

She found her sister's car, too.
Usually she pushes it around the house up on her knees until she crashes into something

then tries to figure out why it stopped.

Sometimes, though, she gets brave and starts to climb behind the wheel while up on her feet.
The car usually takes off and leaves her face planting (note Mommy's foot as a stopper).
She does much better if we help her get situated while the car is stationary, then let her go.

She also figured out how to open and close the front hatch AND put the colored shapes in the correct shape sorting holes.

Another example of everything in the mouth- finger puppets from Aunt Kristi.

One of her new favorite activities is climbing onto her sister's rocking chair.

Notice I didn't say climbing INTO the chair- she likes to climb ONTO the chair
facing backward, standing on the seat

Yes, we are working on the word and sign 'sit' for our little dare devil.

Kennedy also likes crawling through the tunnel of the toy Uncle Daniel got for Madison her first Christmas when she was just a baby.
It's fun to hide in the middle
and crawl through.

Did you notice the little Hello Kitty toy car in her hand (it's from the awesome Advent calendar Aunt Dar and Uncle Michael made for the girls last Christmas)- that car makes an appearance later in the post.
This time through she found a spoon to carry

Lucky for us, Kennedy is pretty much wearing the same sizes her sister did.
With their birthday's only 3 days apart one would think we hit pay dirt on hand me downs...
Well, since Miss Kennedy made her debut over a pound and a half larger than her sister, that hasn't exactly been the case.
The clothes Madison was wearing at the end of her first summer are the clothes Kennedy is wearing now.
Only seasonal transitions have been tough as far as clothes go.
As it turns out, lots of Madison's 9 month and 12 month outfits were dresses.
Kennedy is not too fond of dresses.
They get in the way of her knees when she is trying to crawl.
Most of the time, when she is wearing a dress, she crab walks through the house.

with a toy in her mouth, of course (the pink car is back!) Note: Madison Snow White in the background. She loves her dress up.

Apparently being the second child means you have to entertain yourself.
Kennedy likes to take the big bouncy balls and push them, then chase after them.
Crab walking, of course.

Note the car made it from the hand in the previous shot, back to the mouth for her trip into the kitchen.

It's just too funny seeing her little bottom up in the air as she cruises through the house.

Destination achieved.
She usually crawls into the kitchen looking for Sierra's water bowl to play in and ultimately over turn.
Mommy's onto this little Monkey, so if the baby gate between the kitchen and gathering room (yes, gathering room- our dining room is the same size as our living room and in our little 1000 sqr ft 1950's rental house, we can use all the play area we can get. This is the room everyone has always gathered, so we have a banquet style table with benches along 2 sides and a love seat along with the girls kitchen and toys in this room- it works.) isn't up, Sierra's water isn't down.

She also likes to sit in the laundry basket with Madison and go for pretend rides.
Kennedy hasn't had a real ride through the house in a laundry basket yet.

We'll have to work on that.

She's getting pretty good at using those pipes.
Although she doesn't have much of a vocabulary, verbal or signing, as of yet- she sure does know how to use her voice to get attention.
She can be quite loud when she doesn't think she's getting enough attention.
We are still working on signing with her. She pays attention when we show her something new, but no reciprocation yet- other than her first sign 'Milk'- which she uses whenever she is ready to nurse.
Kennedy is still in size 3 diapers and is wearing mostly 12 month clothing. She even wears some 18 month pieces, although most are still too big for her.
We've all but abandoned baby food since Kennedy decided she wants to eat everything on her own.
She tries to take the spoon away if we attempt to feed her and ends up flinging food everywhere.
Luckily, other than strawberries, she doesn't seem to have any adverse reactions to food so she is pretty easy to please. She's still happily nursing with Mommy throughout the day and only wakes up once a night for the most part.
Oh-and she has 6 teeth. 4 on top, two on bottom.
No new weight because we haven't been to the doctor (knock on wood).
We go back for her 12 month well baby check up.

Breakfast and Painting

June 17th Madison woke up and asked if we could make pancakes for breakfast.
So we did
All the girls had pancakes.
Daddy is gone for work before we wake up, otherwise we would have shared with him.
Mommy and Madison also had strawberries

none for Kennedy- like her sister was early on, she is slightly allergic to them. If she has more than a bite for two she gets a little rash on her chest and back so better to avoid them for now.
After breakfast and nap time we went out back to work on a craft project.
This was Kennedy's first time finger painting and Mommy knew it would be messy so the girls were dressed in clothes that are already stained.
Kennedy wore a onsie 2 sizes too big, but it worked.

After a few minutes of eating the paint and smearing it all over herself, I realized Kennedy probably could have gone without clothes.
Even Madison decided to 'think outside the box' with her project.
She used her non-toxic finger paint as lipstick.

Kennedy was a disaster

but isn't that what childhood is for?

a little non-toxic paint never hurt anybody.

We were working on a Father's Day hand print craft.
This is how Kennedy's little flower garden turned out

I'm not sure why this picture keeps uploading sideways.
Just turn your head and humor me, please.

Library

We've enjoyed spending more time at the library this summer in an attempt to 'beat the heat'.
Our library has great tiny tots and preschooler story times Monday and Tuesday mornings.
They also have a fantastic summer reading program with magicians, reptile specialists, and all kinds of other fun visitors.
We've had great intentions of going to the program events, but they usually fall during nap time.
These pictures are from our June 15th library adventure.

Kennedy was more interested in her sister than the reader.
When reading time was over they brought out wooden puzzles for the kids to play with.
Madison took Kennedy's puzzle away from her and was asked (by Mommy) to give it back.
She gave it back (ok, threw it back) and went to a chair to pout.

Kennedy just hung out by the book binding shaped seat and No 2 pencil watching her sister pout

then went back to her puzzles.

She spent more time attempting to put pieces in her mouth than actually putting them together.

Once Madison realized no one was paying attention to her pouting episode, she came back to help with the crayon puzzle.

The girl puzzle was her favorite. We put it together and took it apart a million times.
Luckily there were 2 of them, so we weren't keeping it from other kids.

After puzzles, we grabbed some new books to check out.
As soon as we got out the door Madison wanted to start reading.

Luckily there is a beautiful grassy park next to the library.

We parked under a tree to examine our new dinosaur books.

Kennedy was more interested in eating the grass

and making faces

The trees in parking lot were in bloom and looked and smelled incredible.

So, of course, we stopped for a few quick pics before loading into the car.

Gorgeous- too bad we couldn't capture the awesome smell via camera.

Madison ended up falling as she hopped back and forth from the grass off the curb by the car. She got her first skinned knee since she first started walking.
Luckily we have a first aid kit in the car.
The 'kitty owie' (Hello Kitty bandaid) saved the day!
A quick run to Target for a special snack and play time in the toy aisle helped, too.

Second week of June

Tuesday, June 9th the girls were at home playing with Mommy.
Kennedy (aka Turbo) snuck into the office behind Mommy early in the day and found Daddy's Jeep.
Several years ago before the girls were here, Daddy was in an accident with his green Jeep and it rolled over.
That year for Christmas, he put a new Jeep on his wish list.
Gramm followed thru and got Daddy this remote control Jeep.
Madison thought it was great when she was a baby.
Kennedy is not different now.
She tried to figure out how to use the remote control when she found it but we waited for Daddy to come home.

Kennedy sat with Daddy and watched

while Madison learned how to make the Jeep cruise the living room.

The girls always love playing with Daddy
*
Wednesday morning was a little chilly with June Gloom
After we got dressed

Kennedy cruised the house with toys in both hands making funny faces

Apparently she was worried her sister was going to take her ball and baby if she let go.

Later that night our friend Kelly came over (aka Aunt Kelly) with her 6 year old niece Annaliese.
Ana is used to being the oldest child when we get together with friends and she plays so well with the younger kids.
Kennedy followed them around the house as the big girls alternated between the play kitchen and the girls' room pretending.
As it got later, we needed to move toward bed time routine.
Ana was happy to jump into the tub with Madison.
It's tough to see in this photo but she has long hair that hangs half way down her back.

It was a whole new experience for Mommy washing a full head of hair.
Kind of funny.
After bath time, Ana read books to Madison

It was so cute watching them interact.

We are looking forward to playing with Ana more at her upcoming birthday pool party!

Madison loves to dress up.
We've mentioned that before.
Recently she fashioned herself a cape to 'be a Prince'.
Now, when Matt gets home from work she begs to go out front and run around

Sierra chases after her

she loves her cape flying behind her

but she cranes her head to see as it flies
